Men's Soccer Ready to Keep Building in 2023
COLUMBIA, SC- Entering its third year as a program, the Columbia College Men's Soccer team is looking to continue building while stacking wins.
Head Coach John Sandy, the first coach in Men's Soccer history, is back for his third season overseeing the program. He will be joined on the sidelines this season by new assistant Coach Logan Koon; he joins the program after a playing career at Lander University.
The Koalas will carry a deep roster this season, with most of last year's names and faces back, while also bringing in a recruitment class of five freshmen; a solid mix for a program looking to keep laying the foundation for the future.
Junior Defender Trey McCathern, on his time at Columbia College, "I've been here from the start, so I've seen it all... The guys that have come in since year one have helped tremendously to grow this program." He continued with a smile, "I'm so excited for this year and the future of this program."
Sophomore Forward Jimmy Yancey, on his time with the program so far, "When I arrived in 2022, I kept hearing that we needed to improve our technique; the team wasn't as technical as coach Sandy wanted. Since then, the players he's brought in have been very technical and skilled which has helped the entire group improve. Overall, I've seen a lot of improvement from everyone."
The Koalas will play 10 games at home, and officially kick off year three on Thursday, August 24, when they welcome Benedict College to Younts Stadium for a 7 p.m. start.
