Koalas Explode With 40+ Point Blow Out Win

DEFENSE! That was the answer that Coach Black had to all the questions about why the Koalas lost by 20 last Saturday at Brenau. He, along with the team made sure that those questions would not be asked again this week. Tuesday evening the Koalas took on non conference opponent Bob Jones University. What was suppose to be a close game on paper, actually turned out to be anything but that after the final horn went off. The Koalas capped off an explosive offensive performance with an even better, suffocating, defensive one. With a 41 point victory over the Bruins, the Koalas look to carry that momentum over into this coming Saturdays match up against AAC opponent Truett-McConnell.

Leading the team on the offensive side was senior Jenesai Mohammed who finished the game with an early season high score of 24 points. Mohammed went 3 for 6 from 3 point and hit 9 of 12 field goals overall. Junior Denijah Johnson recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures from off the bench was sophomore Jordan Morgan who was able to add 11 points to the teams total, which included a last second, nail in the coffin 3 pointer to end the game.

Leading the defensive efforts was freshman Ellona Moulds. Moulds got the nod from Coach Black as a starter to replace injured junior Hanna Kinard. Her defensive presence made it very difficult for the opposing guards to get the ball up the court. She was awarded 4 steals for her efforts. Denijah Johnson also contributed with 5 steals of her own. The team had a total of 20 steals with Johnson and Moulds accounting for almost half of the teams total.

The team travels to Truett-McConnell this Saturday with a 2 pm start time. Next week the Koalas travel to Columbia International University which is in Columbia,SC on Tuesday, the 20th beginning at 5:30pm. The next home game will be Tuesday, the 26th against Point University at 5:30pm.
