
Street's 26 Points Not Enough in Loss to Montreat
COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College women's basketball team's rally fell just short on Wednesday at home as they dropped their conference game 82-72 against Montreat College.
Junior guard Makayla Street led the Koalas with a season-high of 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. Fellow guard Tysonia Lowe also finished in double-figure scoring posting 18 points and an impressive five steals.
Junior forward De'Asia Feaster also led the way defensively grabbing 11 rebounds while fellow forward Kamya Hatten totaled 12 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists. Guard Kindan Dawson also led the team with 3 assists along with 5 points while junior guard Layla Wall recorded a team-high 7 steals.
A tightly-played first half saw Montreat lead 16-13 after the first quarter and just 30-29 at the break. However, the Cavs scored a whopping 34 points in the third quarter outscoring the Koalas by 17. Columbia then rallied in the 4th quarter getting to within 6 points at 74-68 with 2:30 to go and then 78-72 with 20 seconds left, but could get no closer. CC shot 36.5 % overall but only 17 percent from three in the loss.
CC falls to 13-5 overall and 6-5 in the conference while Montreat improves to 11-5 and 8-3 in the AAC. Columbia will remain home to host Kentucky Christian on Saturday at a new tip-off time of 12:00 pm.
