Waibel snaps 1st place finish at USC Aiken

USC Aiken Pacer Path, Aiken, SC - In their third meet of the season Columbia College Cross Country took a first place finish at the USC Aiken Pacer Invitational on Saturday, September 30th. Columbia posted a combined time of 1:50.41 with an average time of 22:08 grabbing 5 of the top 10 places. Columbia capitalized on the tough course as they dominated the hills and sand.

Alyssa Waibel captured her first career win with a spectacular time of 21:00.00. Waibel shaved 00:13.92 off her previous time at the Winthrop Invitational and 00:47.44 off her season opener time at the Palmetto State Invitational. With an average mile of 6:45, Waibel pushed past her former average by nearly 10 seconds. 

Coming just behind Waibel in third place, SR Irene Requena posted a time of 21:23.00 with an average mile of 6:52. In quick succession, SR Annika Wicht and JR Lauren Glencross snagged the 5th and 6th place titles with times of 22:06.00 and 22:37.00. Both posting average miles below the 7:20 marker. Sr Helen Taylor finished out for Columbia in the top 10 at number 9 with a time of 23:35.00 and an average mile of 7:35. 

Fr Caroline Dempsey rounded out the race for Columbia and posted 30th with a time of 29:15.00 and a average 9:34 pace.

Columbia College Cross Country will race again on October 7th at the SOAR Fields (5637 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212) at the first ever Koala Classic Cross Country Invitational. The Women's 5k will begin at 9:40am EST.
