Softball Drops Season Opener at Brewton-Parker
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Columbia College softball team dropped their season opener on the road on Friday at Brewton-Parker University (Ga.) falling 6-3 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
Senior pitcher Ally Boyd was able to help the Lady Koalas get off to a good start on the mound. Boyd pitched for three innings and was able to hold the Lady Barons to only 4 hits and 2 runs with a walk.
Columbia got on the board first in the opening inning as junior right fielder Takeirra Bakken drove in sophomore 3B Elaina Seymour with an RBI single. Seymour had reached via a single and stole second base.
Boyd then held BPCU scoreless until the 4th inning when they pushed across two runs. Freshman reliever Nealy Lockner then came on but allowed 4 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits with 2 walks over 2 and 1/3 innings. Senior reliever Amanda Lohrey then held BP scoreless in the 6th inning, allowing a hit and striking out one. The middle infield duo of Wolff and Littlejohn also turned a nifty double play in game one as well.
CC totaled six hits led by junior SS Ashlynn Wolff who had a single, double and an RBI hit in the 7th inning that scored senior CF Lana Hampson. Sophomore catcher Reagan Kelly also singled in junior 2B Joni Littlejohn, who doubled to reach base, in the 6th inning.
In game two, the Koalas were held to just three hits and two runs over 7 innings by two BPCU pitchers as they fell 5-2. Ash Wolff led the offense again adding three hits, including a double, while scoring a run. J. Littlejohn stole second in the first inning and also drove in a run on a sacrifice in the 5th. N. Lockner also reached base twice on walks.
In the circle, junior pitcher Maddie Vaughn threw just 1 and 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits with three walks while sophomore reliever Madison Cheek came in to throw the final 4 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 walks and a strikeout.
