Dr. Moody Receives AAC FAR Of The Year Award

Dr. Kirt Moody of Columbia is the 2019-20 Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) of the Year, the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) announced Monday during its annual spring meetings.

Moody has served as the FAR for Columbia for six years and has taught at the institution since 2003. He is a professor of science, teaching courses in introductory biology, biodiversity, ecology, zoology, botany, genetics, marine biology, oceanography, earth science, and environmental science. During his time at Columbia, Moody has also served as the Chair of Biological Sciences, the Chair of Environmental Studies, and the Dean of Business and Mathematics and Sciences.

"When I arrived at Columbia College as the new athletics director, he was one of the first to come by my office to introduce himself and lend his support," said Columbia Athletic Director Deborah Wardlaw. "He has given advice and instruction on academic and athletic issues that affect the department and teams with fairness and honesty. In addition, he is always willing to speak with coaches and players about projects and team goals."

This is the first time Moody has received the award.
