Columbia College Hall of Fame Nominations Now Open

Columbia College Athletics  Hall of Fame
 
The Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame purpose is to recognize those student-athletes, coaches and administrators who have contributed the most to Columbia College athletics over the years. It places on record forever the names and achievements of the athletes and others who have brought local, regional and/or national acclaim to Columbia College through athletics and who, after graduation, have further brought credit to Columbia College, their communities and themselves by the manner in which they have assumed their responsibilities as citizens.

Membership Committee 

Each year the Hall of Fame Committee will be responsible for collectively considering the nominations and selecting the most appropriate and deserving nominees for induction into Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame committee consists of members of the Columbia College community that have had an integral role in the operations and the development of growth of the college’s athletics programs. The Hall of Fame committee may change from year to year based on the needs and availability of committee members but have no less than seven (7) members. 1. Director of Athletics  2. Executive Vice President 3. Sports Information Director 4. Advancement Office representative 5. Director of Alumnae Relations 6. Current Coaching Staff (at least one) 7. Faculty Athletic representative 8. Additional key members as appointed by the Director of Athletic.

Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame Nomination Procedures

Nominations may be made at any time during the year, but must be received by the deadline of January 5 for consideration during that academic calendar year.   Nominations will be retained for future consideration for a period of five years, in which the nominee that failed to be inducted must be nominated again for consideration. Nominations must be submitted as described to the Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee to prompt the selection process. Nomination forms are available at Columbia College Athletics Office and nominations may be printed or completed online at http://www.gokoalas.com/about/hall_of_fame. 

Criteria for selection 
Below is a list of general criteria for selection into Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame. Nominations may be made in the following categories:  
Primary Criteria 
Athletic Participation and Athletic Honors

1. 
   Student-athletes. Former Columbia College student-athletes who recorded outstanding achievements in with their varsity athletic team are eligible for nomination, selection and induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Outstanding achievement in competition is recognized as well as academic, spiritual, and community-based accomplishments. A student-athlete is eligible for induction in the Athletics Hall of Fame after a minimum of five years has passed following their last season of eligibility. 
2.  Coaches, administrators, and others who have had distinguished careers of service, who have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of athletics, and who are held in high esteem in Columbia College community of athletics are duly recognized in this category. These individuals have exemplified Columbia College’s standard of excellence and have exhibited leadership qualities that are worthy of praise and recognition. Individuals in this category are not required a waiting period before nomination selection and induction can take place. Induction can be during or after their tenure at Columbia College. 
3.  Team Nominations. In exceptional cases, an entire team may be recognized for achievement in post season play or by garnering regional or national recognition for significant achievements.   Teams that have achieved distinguished or outstanding feats in the field of competition are eligible for nomination, selection and induction in the Athletics Hall of Fame. The Selection Committee will also review contributions and achievements of past Columbia College athletic teams, awarding distinguished and qualified teams, an Honorary Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame Team Award for exhibiting excellence in team achievement, character and community service. These teams may not be considered for induction until five years after their athletic eligibility has expired and only one team may be considered for induction each year.
