Kelly Cox Named the New Athletic Director at Columbia College

COLUMBIA, S.C. –  Kelly Cox has been appointed as the new athletic director at Columbia College by Dr. Ron White, Vice President for Enrollment Management.  Cox brings to the Fighting Koalas 15 years of experience coaching track and field at the NCAA Division I and Division III levels.  She will begin her new position July 1st.

Cox began her coaching career at Kansas State University in 1996 as an assistant coach.  In her six year stay at Kansas State, the track and field program produced 4 Olympians, 36 All-Americans, 2 Big XII Championships, and a top 5 finish at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in 2002.

After her experience in Manhattan, KS, Cox took the helm of the track and field program at NCAA Division I member James Madison University.  She served as the head track and field coach from 2002-09.  Cox comes to Columbia College from Millikin University where she served as the head track and field coach since 2009.  She has also served as an adjunct instructor at James Madison University, Millikin University, and Blue Ridge Community College.

No stranger to the NAIA, Cox competed in track and field at NAIA member Missouri Baptist University.  She was a two-time NAIA National Champion in the high jump and a two-time record holder in the event.  She holds a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in Kinesiology in Athletic and Recreational Administration from James Madison University.

About her new opportunity with the Columbia College family, Cox said, “I am very excited to be joining such a great team.  The administration, coaches, faculty and staff make this a special place to be. ”

Until July 1st, requests can be sent to either James Morrison or Brian Solomon.
