Koalas Closeout Home Season with Win over Johnson (Tenn.)

Columbia, S.C. – The Columbia College men's soccer team won its second straight, as they defeated Johnson (Tenn.) 2-1 in its final home game of the 2022 season.

The Koalas will close out the season Saturday, Oct. 29, when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan.

Johnson opened the scoring, knocking in a goal in the 25th minute. The Royals enjoyed the 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

Columbia College's offense was aggressive at the start of the second stanza. It took just 11 minutes for the Koala to tie the game.

Mitchell Clark scored off a pass from Jimmy Yancey in the 56th minute.

Both defensives remained solid over the next 17-plus minutes until Breon Riley knocked in what proved to be the game-winner in the 84th minute.

The teams finished the game with equal shots-on-goals, five.

Austin Gunnels, who was honored in a half-time senior recognition, finished the game with four saves.
