Columbia College Tennis Era Opens at Belmont Abbey

Belmont, NC – The Columbia College men's tennis team opened its era at Belmont Abbey College for the Crusader Invitational on September 2 and 3. There were no team scores for the event as the Koalas competed against Belmont Abbey College (2nd team) and Hampton- Sydney (1st team and 2nd team) in singles and doubles matches.

" Super proud of our guys and the performance they put together last weekend," said head coach Mark Carnes. "They showed a lot of resiliency and grit. Many third-set tiebreakers and tight matches all around. Great start to the season."

Over the two days, the Koalas took six single victories. Freshman Tiaan Jacobs finished the weekend undefeated in single matches picking up three wins. Freshman Waldo Bosch paired up with freshmen Owen Brumfield and Jacobs to finish undefeated in doubles.

Jacobs defeated Tuttle of Belmont Abbey, 6-1, 6-1, on day one. On day two, Jacobs defeated Hampton-Sydney's 1st teamer Patrick Conde (6-2, 6-2) and Hampton-Sydney's 2nd teamer John (1-6, 6-1, 11-9).

Bosch and Jacobs teamed up to defeat Belmont Abbey's Sadtler and Tuttle, 6-1 on day one. On day two, Bosch and Jacobs defeated Casey and John of Hampton Sydney's (1st team) 6-4, and Bosch and Brumfield defeated Dylan and John of Hampton Sydney's (2nd team) 6-2.

Bosch also claimed a single victory vs. Casey of Hampton-Sydney's 1st teamer 6-3, 6-4.

Carnes added, " We are excited to keep improving and working hard."

Columbia College will begin team play in Spring 2023.
