Koalas Competitive at Montreat Invitational

MONTREAT, NC- The Columbia Track and Field teams hit the road for the second time in as many weeks, traveling to North Carolina, where they participated in the two-day Montreat College Invitational.

Multiple Koalas had strong showings, with seven top-5 finishes across numerous events.

The women nearly swept the 10000 Meter Run, with Makayla Hollifield (39:58.90) winning the event. She was joined by Angeline Kravitz (3rd) and Izabelle Trefts (5th) in the top-5. Ainhoa Colino (8) and Gabrielle Huggins (9) also cracked the top 10 of the event.

The 4x800 Meter relay team of Huggins, Kravits, Hollifield, and Trefts finished in fourth with a time of 11:03.5.

The women also faired well in the field events, with Victoria Heiser-Whatley placing eighth in the High Jump and Darien Watkins taking seventh in the Triple Jump. In addition, Anaya Canty (6) barely missed out on a top-5 finish in the Hammer Throw with a 38.68m throw.

The Koalas once again dominated the 5000M race Walk; Trefts took first with Victoria Heiser-Whatley just behind her in second, and Mina Shull claimed sixth.

Daylon Mcdonald provided the best individual finish for the men's side, taking seventh in the Discus Throw with a 39.59M final. The 4x800 Meter Relay team consisting of Patrick Timmerman, Kaden Reeder, Dorde Racic, and Austin Major placed fifth with a time of 8:48.97, the highest finish by any men's team at the invitational.

The Koalas return to action next Friday and Saturday at the two-day VertKlasse Meet, hosted by High Point University in High Point, NC.
