Columbia splits with Point after walk off home run

Columbia, SC. - Columbia Softball split 1-1 with Point University in their first Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader of the 2018 season on Friday, March 2, at home. After dropping the first game 1-3, they rallied to take the second game 4-3 thanks to a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh from senior shortstop Taylor Rawl.

Game 1

Columbia snagged one run in the first game, an RBI single hit by Morgan Smith to bring Lynnsey Hanks in. Hanks (1-1) pitched the entirety of the first game, facing 31 batters, allowing 6 hits, and striking out five Point batters.

Game 2

Point led 2-0 into the top of the fifth inning before first baseman Rebeccas Prosser smashed a solo homerun to post one on the scoreboard. Columbia took two more run and four hits in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead over the Skyhawks. Point managed to tie the game through a Columbia error on an RBI double. But early in the seventh, Rawl wook a walk-off homerun to end the game 4-3 in Columbia's favor.
