Koalas Roll Against Cobras in Home Opener

Columbia College defeated Caldwell Tech 5-0 and 2-1 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout in the first game. Gabby Lawrence induced a groundout from Kloie Green to finish off the game.

 Columbia College got things moving early in the first inning. Alexus Jennings tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Liz Stroud earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for Columbia College. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out five. Lawrence threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lawrence recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Columbia.

 Columbia College racked up 12 hits. Taylor Hannah, Jennings, Kenzi Danberg, and Madi Wadford each managed multiple hits for Columbia College Koalas Varsity. Hannah led Columbia with four hits in four at bats. Columbia tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Hannah led the way with two.

 In the second game of the double header, Columbia opened up scoring in the first inning, when Alexus Jennings doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

 Caldwell Tech evened things up at one in the top of the second inning with a solo homer by Jada Wilson.

 Columbia pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Madison Keefer singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Liz Stroud was credited with the victory for Columbia. She lasted six innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out three.

 Nataligh Lail took the loss for Caldwell Tech. She allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

 Jenna Heath started the game for Columbia College. She went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and walking one

 Taylor Hannah went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Columbia in hits. CC was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. The Koalas will host USC Union on Saturday February 8th with the first game starting at 12pm, and will be home again on Sunday to face Spartanburg Methodist.
