Mount Vernon, Ga. – After dropping the first game of its doubleheader with Brewton Parker, 4-2, the Columbia College softball rebounded, winning game two, 4-2, to pick up the road split with the Barons.  The split pushes the Koalas early-season record to 3-1.  It was the season opener for Brewton Parker, who goes to 1-1.

Columbia College will close out its season-opening road swing this Saturday, Feb. 12 at USC Salkehatchie.

The Barons used nine hits and one Koala error to secure the two-run game one victory.  Abbey Flowers, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, had a double and a home run to lead Brewton Parker.

The Koalas had three players to finish with multiple hits. Kinsley Goza, Kiley Bridgmon, and Kristin Wemes each finished with two hits in the opening game.  Goza and Bridgmon scored one run each.

Natalie Hardy was the winning pitcher for Brewton Parker, and Kylie Smith was the losing pitcher of record.

After going five scoreless innings and allowing two runs in the bottom of the second, Columbia College picked up its intensity.  The Koala scored four runs off four hits in the top of the sixth to take the 4-2 lead.

Both teams' defense was solid in the final inning for the final score.

Four different Koalas scored in the contest.  Wemes, Alyssa Diaz, Jordan Kennedy, who was on as a pinch-runner, and Madison Lee all scored runs in the win.

Gabby Lawrence picked up her second win on the mound for Columbia College.  Laykin Brown was the losing pitcher of record.

Columbia College will host Benedict College in its 2022 home opener next Wednesday, Feb. 16.
