Koalas Sweep Converse in Non-Conference Doubleheader

The Columbia College (SC) softball team played one of its best doubleheaders of the season as they swept converse 16-6 and 12-3 in a non-conference matchup in Spartanburg, SC.

The sweep improves the Koalas to 9-5 overall.

After scoring three runs in the opening inning of game one, Columbia College found itself down 5-3 after three complete innings. The Koalas bats came back to life in the fourth.

Columbia College put up two runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, and eight in the seventh inning for their 16 runs.

The Koalas held the Valkyries to one run over the last three innings.

Kiley Bridgmon, Alyssa Diaz, and Keeley Hulse finished 3-for-5 at the plate.  Kristin Wemes and Mary-Catherine Sanders finished with three runs apiece.

Game two belonged solely to Columbia College. The Koalas led 6-1 by the middle of the fourth.

After Converse scored two runs in its half of the fourth, Columbia College scored six runs in the top fifth and held the Valkyries scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure the 12-3 victory in five innings.

Wemes was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and Bridgmon was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.  Madison Wadford and Ashlyn Stanley also had multiple hits, finishing with two each.  Wadford crossed the plate three times while Jordan Kennedy added two runs in the win.

Weather permitting, the Koalas will host Carolina University Saturday, Mar. 12.  Game one of the doubleheader is 2 pm.
