Koalas Open Homestand with a Split Against Truett McConnell

In its first game at home since March 5, the Columbia College softball team split an AAC doubleheader with Truett McConnell, winning game one 3-1 and falling in game 2 7-2.

The Koalas' record goes to 12-15 overall and 6-11 in the AAC. The Bears go to 18-19 overall and 11-5 in the AAC.

Columbia College will have four straight home contests beginning Tuesday, April 12, when they host CIU in a single game at 6 pm. The Koalas will then host Montreat Wednesday (April 13: 4 & 6 pm), Bluefield Friday (April 15: 3 & 5 pm), and Johnson (Tenn.) Saturday (April 16: 1 & 3 pm).  The Johnson (Tenn.) game will be senior day with the double header

Elizabeth Stroud pitched a complete game to pick up the game one victory. She allowed seven baserunners: four hits with three walks.

Kinsley Goza, who went 2-for-2 with a run, led the Koalas at the plate. Madison Wadford contributed one hit, a three-run double, which proved to be the game-winning hit.

Columbia College got production from Kylie Smith, who had a hit and a run, and Madison Hearn, who finished 1-for-1 with a run and a walk.

Alicia Price scored the only run for Truett McConnell in the opening game, and Kyleigh Sanders was the losing pitcher of record for the Bears.

The Koalas scored the first of game two in the bottom of the first. The score remained 1-0 until Truett McConnell scored a run in the top of the fifth to knot the game at 1-all. The Bears then scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

The Koalas would pick up their second run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when Alyssa Diaz hit an RBI single to score Ashlyn Stanley.

Karley Hobbs was the winning pitcher for the Bears, and Meghan Dennis, who went five innings, was the losing pitcher of record.
