Columbia College Battles, Fall Short Against No. 1 Seed Bryan

The Columbia College softball team dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 1 seeded Bryan, 4-2, in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.

The Koalas will face Brenau in the elimination game on Wednesday, Apr. 27, 11 am.

Columbia scored one run in the top of the fourth as Alyssa Diaz singled up the middle to score Kristin Wemes, who doubled to left field one batter before.

The Koalas tacked one run on the top of the fifth. Kinsley Goza singled through the right side to score Madison Wadford.

Bryan's offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth, using four hits and a Columbia College error for a breakout four-run inning. All four of the runs came with two outs.

Bryan's defense held the Koalas scoreless in the last two innings to pick the victory.

Wemes led Columbia College at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run.

Meghan Dennis, who went 4.2 innings, was the losing pitcher of record.

Hayley Galvan, who went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, led Bryan.

Stephanie Blevins went five innings allowing both the runs to pick up the win. Annalise Wood, who pitched the final two innings, was credited with the save.
