Koalas Split Season-Opening Doubleheader with Benedict

Columbia, SC (2-6-23) – The Columbia College softball team split its season-opening doubleheader with Benedict College, falling to the Tigers in game one 8-3 and winning the game to 9-2.

In game one, Benedict jumped ahead 3-0 lead by the third inning and pushed its lead to 7-0 before Columbia College got on the board.  The Koalas scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Both teams scored one run in the final inning for an 8-3 score.

The roles were reversed in game two as Columbia College led 3-0 by the end of three.  Benedict put up two runs in the top of the fourth to close the gap to one.  The Koalas kept pushing, scoring two in the fifth and three in the sixth while holding the Tigers scoreless over the final three innings to secure the split.

Mary-Catherine Sanders went 2-for-4 with a run to lead Columbia College in game one.  Madison Wadford had two home runs, and 6 RBI and Kyra McCarson went 4-for-4 with a double and a run for the Koalas in game two.

Columbia College will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 15, when they travel across town to face the second of three NCAA DII opponents, Allen University.
