Dennis Perfect on the Mound, Koalas Sweep Allen

Columbia, SC (2-15-22) – In the opening game of its non-conference doubleheader with the cross-town foe, Allen University, Columbia College junior pitcher Meghan Dennis faced just 15 batters in throwing the first perfect game of her career. The Koalas defeated the Yellow Jackets 9-0 in the opening contest and 10-2 in game two, earning its third win against an NCAA Division II opponent.

In throwing the perfect game, Dennis struck out five of the 15 batters and picked up her second win of the season. She recorded a least one strikeout in three of the five innings, ending the game by striking out three players in the fifth, all swinging.

Madison Lee was the most productive player offensively for Columbia College in game one, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, triple, four RBIs, and a run. The Koalas had three players with two hits. Kylie Smith and Madison Hearn led the team in the run column with two each.

Columbia College pitchers were the stories on the day, as Jenna Heath picked up her first win of the season, allowing just two runs and four hits against 24 batters faced in leading Columbia College to the eight-run victory in game two. Heath finished the game with nine strikeouts.

Dacie Smith went 3-for-4 including a double and a triple, with four RBIs, and Madison Hearn had two hits, including a double with an RBI.  Madison Wadford had one hit, a triple, with three runs for the Koalas in the win.

Columbia College will host Wesleyan (GA) Friday, Feb. 24, in a non-conference doubleheader.  The first pitch for game one is 1 p.m. at Sutton Softball Complex in Columbia.
