Koalas Get Back in Win Column, Split with Division II Converse

COLUMBIA, SC- Columbia Softball returned to the win column on Tuesday night, earning a split with NCAA Division two Converse University.

The Koalas held the lead going into the seventh inning of game one, but a wild top of the seventh from the Valkyries turned the tables for a 10-5 final. Columbia bounced back in the second game to earn the split with a 2-1 win.

 

GAME ONE:
Converse took the early 1-0 lead on a wild pitch, they added another score in the top of the third, but Columbia got on the board with their chance to bat.

The Koalas built a 5-4 lead in the middle innings and held the advantage until the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, Converse rattled off six runs with help from two Koala errors.

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Jordan Kennedy and Madison Hearn hit a double, while Madison Lee recorded a triple.

Mary-Catherine Sanders, Kennedy (2), Skyler Monson, and Rachel McMillan all tallied an RBI.

 

GAME TWO:
The second game of the evening saw a lot less scoring, with all three runs coming in the first three innings.

Kyra McCarson got the Koalas on the board first with an RBI single to right field. Then, Dacie Smith brought the winning run around with an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the second.

Converse saw plenty of chances to score throughout but ultimately scored its only run in the third, thanks to stingy pitching from Jenna Heath, who went the distance for the win.

 

UP NEXT:
The Koalas will stay home on Friday and welcome Tennessee Wesleyan to town for more twin ball action at 1 and 3 p.m.
