Koalas Rally Again, Earn Split with Brenau

COLUMBIA, SC- Columbia Softball wrapped its week by hosting Brenau University for more twin ball action. The Koalas earned a split with another walk-off in game two, ending the week with a 5-1 record.

Columbia now stands at 12-12 overall and 3-9 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Meanwhile, the Golden Tigers fall to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in AAC action.

GAME ONE:
Brenau controlled the game, tallying runs early and often. The Golden Tigers held a 10-0 lead heading into the sixth, where the Koalas finally got on the board thanks to an error from the visitors.

GAME TWO:
Game two saw the majority of runs scored in the first inning. Brenau took a 4-0 lead in their first chance to bat, but the Koalas quickly answered. In the bottom of the first, Madison Lee tied things back up with a three-run home run to deep center field.

Brenau tallied another run in the fourth that was answered again in the fifth by Columbia; the score remained tied at five after the seventh.

The visitors added a run in the eighth, but the Koalas remained calm, having been in the same situation just last night.

Rachel McMillian tied things back up in the bottom of the eight with a sacrifice fly to right field that plated a controversial run.

After the dust settled and Meghan Dennis gave everything she had to keep the guests off the board, Madison Hearn brought around the winning run by laying down a perfectly placed squeeze bunt in front of the plate.

UP NEXT:
The Koalas will enjoy some time off before returning to action at home on Tuesday, hosting Brewton-Parker with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
