Softball Opens AAC Play with Split at TWU

ATHENS, TN- With rain in the forecast for the week, Columbia College Softball hit the road to open up Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play a little sooner than expected.

The Koalas earned a split with the Bulldogs, taking game one on the road 3-1 and then falling in the backend game 0-3. Columbia stands 6-6 overall on the young season and 1-1 in AAC play after Sunday's results.

GAME ONE: Columbia- 3, TWU- 1

The Koala bats stayed hot following two run-rule wins on Friday, recording ten hits. Aislyn Sharp picked up right where she left off, going 3-4 at the dish with a double and an RBI; she also scored a run. Ruthie Roman was the only other Koala in the lineup with multiple hits; she went 2-4 with an RBI, while Hope Azurdia and Brooklyn Franco recorded a double. Catcher Katie Poole knocked in the third run with her lone hit of the day, a base hit to left field in the top of the sixth.

Meghan Dennis earned her second-straight win in the circle by going the complete game, allowing just one run; she's now 3-2 on the season.

GAME TWO: TWU- 3, Columbia- 0

The Bulldogs flipped the script in the second game, holding the Koala offense at bay and allowing just three hits while the hosts rattled off 14. Kylie Smith and Bailey Strickland split time in the circle, but Smith endured the loss in 3.1 innings of work. All three runs for the Bulldogs came on base hits.

The Koalas have a quick turnaround as they'll take on Bryan in more doubleheader action tomorrow at 1 & 3 PM.
