Bio

Leighann Newberry is in her third season as the Head Softball Coach at Columbia College. She is 65-62 so far in her career at Columbia College through three seasons, excluding the 2024 postseason.

Newberry, a Lizella, GA native, played collegiate softball for Gordon College (Ga.) and NAIA Brewton-Parker College (Ga.). While playing, she received All-Academic honors in each of her four years. She also received the NAIA Student-Athlete of the Year in 2011 and was a finalist in the SSAC Golden Glove Award in 2012.

Before joining the staff at Columbia College, Newberry spent nine years coaching High School Softball in the GISA. For the final six years of her high school career, she served as the Athletics Director and high school math and science teacher, and coached softball, basketball, and track at Windsor Academy. During her time at Windsor Academy, she won three State Championships and received Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) AA Coach of the Year three times.

Newberry began her career at Robert Toombs Christian Academy, where she spent three years teaching high school math and coaching softball, basketball, tennis, and track.

She graduated from Brewton Parker College in 2012 Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports and Fitness and a minor in Coaching. She received her Master’s in Athletic Coaching from Columbia College.
