Koalas Win in Major Comeback

Koalas Win in Major Comeback

With less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, sophomore Jaida Hawes drives down the line and throws up a highly contested lay up. The ball comes off the rim and Jaida collects her own rebound and puts up another shot; only for it to come off again. The ball is fumbled between two or three players, Hawes stumbles but keeps her balance and collects another rebound. The Koalas reset, a pass goes to junior Hanna Kinard, who then slings the ball over to senior Jenesai Mohammed who shoots the 3 point shot...the crowd goes silent as they watch the ball  travel and SWISH! The crowd errupts in celebration as the Koalas take a 3 point lead.

88-85 was the final score of another Koala win. This is the 4th win out of 5 games for the Koalas as they try to claw their way back into the playoff picture. The team was firing on all cylinders last night. Even with a slow start in the first quarter Coach Black and the team were able to pull things together in the second half to mount a comeback victory over the St.Andrews Knights.

All of the starters scored in double figures last night. Leading all scorers was Denijah Johnson with 25 points and 11 rebounds, which is her highest point total of the season. Jaida Hawes and Hanna Kinard were the next two, both with 16 points and both playing a major role in the last minute of the game. Hanna hitting a clutch corner three that tied the game up at 81 and Jaida finishing a strong layup off of a turnover to go up by 2. Mohammed had 14, including the go-ahead 3 pointer. And lastly freshman Ellona Moulds who had 11 points with the last two being the game ending freethrows to put the game away.

The Koalas have their biggest test coming up as they take on #23 Reinhardt Universtiy on Saturday at home starting at 2 pm. If they can find a way to pull off another victory they will be able to shake up the entire conference standings.
