Koala Women's Golf Team Finish 10th at East Tennessee Collegiate

Johnson City, TN (Sept. 27-28) – The Columbia College (SC) women's golf team carded a 36-hole total of 730 (368-362) to finish 10th at the East Tennessee Collegiate Classic. It was the 2021-22 opening tournament for the Koalas.

The 12-team tournament, hosted by Milligan University, was contested Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28, at the Johnson City Country Club in Johnson City, TN.

Junior Maddy Key was the leader for Columbia College over the two days finishing with a 36-hole total of 161 to place 18TH out of 63 competitors.  Key shaved seven strokes off her opening round of 84 to card a 5-over par 77 on Tuesday.  Her Tuesday round, which included three birdies, was her personal best competitive round as a collegiate.

Each of the first three finishers for the Koalas shaved strokes off their day one total.  Lindsey Hoile, who finished tied for 28th, had an 82 on Tuesday, dropping four strokes off her day-one total to finish the tournament, with a 168 (86-82), and Savanna Wiegand, who finished tied for 46th, dropped five strokes off her day one total of 96 to finish with a 187 (96-91).

"Overall, the women's team played fairly well with Maddy playing her best round ever one of the toughest the courses will play this year," said head coach Tom Mason. "It was a strong field, so I am extremely proud of how the team competed."

McKenzie Driggers, who was competing in her first collegiate meet, shot a 214 (102-112), and Mikaya Thomas shot a 278 (140-138) to round out the competitors for the Koalas.

Columbia College will return to the greens next Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 4-5, when they travel to Laurinburg, NC, to participate in St. Andrews Invitational.

SCAD-Atlanta shot a 625 to win the tournament.
