Lacrosse Opens Season 1-1 in Conference Play

Columbia's lacrosse team is well on there way into the season. Last week the team opened the season with two away games one being against Brenau and the other against St. Andrews. Columbia split those two conference games, winning at Brenau and losing a close match against SAU.

In the Brenau game, the Koalas jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. With a high offensive performance and stout defense the game was never in question. In this game the Koalas had 24 shots on goal, 17 goals with 11 assists, and won 11 draws. Goalie Diamond Brown faced 16 shots, with 9 saves and only 2 goals allowed. Scoring for the Koalas, sophpomore Gwenyn Grapperhaus with 4 goals, senior Morgan Solesbee with 3 goals, Alexa Campbell with 2 goals, senior Elle Zeeman with 1 goal, sophomore Paige Willett with 4 goals, and and Kristina Grant with 3. The game ended with a score of 17-2.

The game against SAU was quite the opposite. St. Andrews jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and forced the Koalas to fight back to get back into the match. Having 12 turnovers and 22 fouls did not aid the Koalas in their efforts for a comeback win. The final score of that match, 8-7.

The Koalas game on Wednesday is canceled due to weather so the next game for the lacrosse team will be Thursday at 6 pm against Southern Wesleyan.
