Koalas Knock Off Golden Tigers at Home to Move to 3-1 in AAC

The Columbia College Koalas extended their conference win streak to three games with a tough 2-1 win over the Brenau Golden Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium.

The Koalas (4-2, 3-1 AAC) got off to a good start in the match when top scorer Ruby Hallam latched onto a long through ball from Madeline Matusik, and the senior calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0 to Columbia after 17 minutes.  The Golden Tigers answered seven minutes later, as a cross-turned-shot was able to defy the Koalas keeper, Jennifer Angeles, and drop into the net, making it 1-1 halfway through the half.

Just like in their last match against Bryan in the AAC, the Koalas were up for the fight, and managed to get their second goal of the game in the 31st minute of the game.  Hallam streaked down the left with the ball all the way to the end line, before cutting it back for fellow senior Jaena Dominguez, who met the ball with the outside of her right foot to beat the Brenau keeper and make it 2-1.

The second half was an even affair with both teams trading off possession but not creating too many clear cut chances, with both keepers only being forced into a few saves.  In the end, the Koalas were able to make the most of the halftime lead and ride out the rest of the game to complete the 2-1 victory.

In the match, Brenau outshot Columbia 12-11, but the Koalas were able to be the more clinical team, with Dominguez and Hallam both scoring for the second game in a row, and Dominguez scoring her first ever game-winner.

Columbia goes on the road again on Wednesday, September 26th, when they travel to face the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes at 7PM in Tennessee.
