Koalas Drop AAC Contest on Road at TWU

The Columbia College Soccer team took a 1-0 lead into halftime on the road at the Tennessee Wesleyan University Lady Bulldogs, but two goals in reply from the host team in the second half meant the Koalas lost the match 2-1 to drop to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the AAC.

The Koalas survived a scrappy opening period, before managing to get on the scoresheet in unique circumstances.  After a passback from a defender was picked up inside the box by the TWU goalkeeper, Sophomore Brianna Sandoval tapped the ball to Senior Ruby Hallam, who blasted the ball through a crowd of players and into the net to make it 1-0 to Columbia.  It was Hallam's team leading 8th goal of the year, and her fifth in the AAC.

Shortly after halftime, the Lady Bulldogs evened up the scoreline on a breakaway as a forward was able to latch onto a through ball and beat Koalas goalkeeper Jennifer Angeles.

With less than five minutes remaining, TWU would grab the winner, as a long ball down the left hand side was put away by the Lady Bulldogs winner.  Columbia was unlucky not to finished either of two quality chances in the last couple of minutes, as TWU rode out the remaining time to take the victory 2-1.

Columbia plays again on Tuesday when they travel to in-state foe Francis Marion University for a 7PM kickoff, before returning home for an AAC matchup on Thursday at 4PM against the Montreat College Cavaliers.
