Koalas top Yellow Jackets

The Columbia College Koalas soccer team picked up their first win of the season at home on Saturday with a 9-0 defeat of the Allen University Yellow Jackets.

After coming off a disappointing season opener, the Koalas were looking to start quickly against the first year Yellow Jackets.

Returners led the way in the early going, as Bri Sandoval opened the scoring in the third minute on an assist from Courtney Carrier.

The Koalas peppered the Yellow Jackets' goal for the rest of the half and managed to put another five chances away, with Charlotte Daniels netting two, Carrier adding one, Bailey Lewter scoring a header, and first-year Jade Moran netting her first college goal.  Assists on the goals were provided by Carrier with two more, Kenzie Moore, Daniels, and first-year Amorie Kostelak.

The second half was much of the same for Columbia as they tacked on another three goals for the final result of 9-0.  Moran added her second goal of the game off Carrier's fourth assist, while Venus Sumpter and Jennifer Angeles notched their first collegiate points when Angeles turned home Sumpter's cross.  Lindsey Sightler also scored her first career goal off an assist from Zyanna Giles as the Koalas ran out comfortable winners.  Cassandra Dilback and Misty Honstein combined for the shutout in goal.

The team returns to action on Tuesday, September 10th when they host USC-Lancaster at Younts Stadium for a 7PM kickoff.
