Koalas shutout Knights 2-0 to move to 2-1 in AAC

The Columbia College Koalas soccer team moved to six points in the conference and a 2-1 AAC record off the back of a 2-0 shutout of the visiting Kentucky Christian Knights.

After a shutout against Bluefield in their last match, the Koalas were keen to continue their quality defensive play against the Knights.  After a somewhat shaky opening 10 minutes, they managed to nick a goal in the 14th minute which set them on course for the match.

Great work down the right from Senior Courtney Carrier led the ball to Junior Madison Lamb, who played the ball into Senior Charlotte Daniels. Daniels turned and managed to poke the ball past the Knights keeper for her team leading 5th goal of the season.

After a number of quality chances were missed, Daniels scored her second goal of the game from the penalty spot.  Sophomore Venus Sumpter ran on to a long through ball from Junior Aleah Colbert, and despite missing her shot, she was bundled over by the Knights keeper and the referee gave the penalty.

Daniels dispatched the kick for a 2-0 lead and the Koalas managed to make the deficit last until halftime.

The second half was more of the same from the Koalas, with First Year Amorie Kostelak, Carrier, and Colbert all going close to adding to the lead.  In the end, the Koalas outshot the Knights 29-3 with Sophomore Jennifer Angeles picking up the shutout in goal.

The Koalas return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to St. Andrews University for a crucial AAC matchup at 1:45PM.
