Koalas drop close contest to Lady Buffs

Koalas drop close contest to Lady Buffs

Despite an early goal as part of a brace from Senior Courtney Carrier, the Columbia College Koalas soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Milligan Lady Buffs on Wednesday evening at Younts Soccer Stadium.

The Koalas got on the board early through their first true attack of the game in the 7th minute as Carrier ran on to a great through ball from fellow Senior Charlotte Daniels.  Carrier cut back across her defender before hitting a left footed shot that beat the Buffs goalkeeper at the near post to make it 1-0 to Columbia.

Milligan replied with two goals before halftime to make it 2-1, and then added a third after 15 minutes of the second half to make it a 3-1 deficit for the Koalas.

Carrier notched her second goal of the contest with 14 minutes remaining, when she followed a long ball from Junior Madison Lamb and beat the Buffs keeper to the ball, volleying home for her 7th goal of the season.

Despite some sustained late pressure and chances, the Koalas were unable to equalize and fell to the Buffs (4-1-1 in AAC) to drop to 2-3-1 in the conference.

For the match, the Koalas were outshot 15-5 with Misty Honstein collecting four saves in the first half and Jennifer Angeles collecting one in the second.

Columbia returns to the field on Saturday afternoon when they travel to face the Reinhardt Lady Eagles in Waleska, GA at 2PM.
