Koala Women’s Soccer Falls to Edward Waters

Columbia, SC –Alyha Velazquez Diaz scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to lift Edward Waters past Columbia College (SC), 3-2, in a non-conference women's soccer matchup in Columbia College's Younts Stadium.

Columbia College (0-1-0) had one last chance to tie the game, but the Tigers (1-1-0) goalie, Sheila Pascual, denied the header by Kylie Stewart with six seconds remaining to secure the victory.

After a goal by Edward Waters' Kendall Burney in the 55th minute gave the Tigers the 2-1 advantage, the Koala's Brianna Sandoval knocked in a corner kick at the 66:04 mark to tie the game at 2-all.

Edward Waters opened the scoring as Burney scored off an assist by Amy Hernandez in the 32nd minute.  Samantha McDaniel passed to Jordan Myers for a Columbia College goal in the 44th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team would score in the remaining minute of the first half, taking the 1-all tie into intermission.

The Koalas will look to rebound from the loss on Friday, Sept. 3, when they travel to Lancaster, SC, to face USC-Lancaster in a non-conference contest.
