Koalas Drop Exciting Battle Against Cavaliers

The Columbia College Koalas Women's Soccer team dropped an exciting matchup against the visiting Montreat College Cavaliers 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Younts Stadium.

Coming off a tough 1-0 loss on Saturday to Brenau, Columbia were looking to bounce back against the top 4 chasing Cavaliers.  The Koalas started off on the front foot in the match, and came close to scoring a few times before finding the opener.  A quick throw-in from Adrianna Machado in the 15th minute found Isabella Gurrieri, who dribbled to the endline before cutting it back to the onrushing Jordan Myers who smacked the ball into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.

Despite controlling the majority of the first half, the Koalas were pegged back in the 32nd minute by the Cavaliers to make it 1-1 at halftime.

A more even second half saw a number of chances for each team without any finding the back of the net until the 74th minute when Montreat was able to control a loose ball in the box and fire the ball into the roof of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Columbia created a couple of decent chances in the final few minutes, but were unable to find the tying goal to drop the Koalas to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Columbia hits the road on Saturday for a matchup with the Bryan College Lions at 1PM in Dayton, TN.
