Koalas and Bruins Tie in Non-Conference Tilt

Madison Stewart scored the tying goal with thirteen minutes remaining as the Columbia College Koalas tied the Carolina University Bruins in a non-conference matchup on Monday evening at Younts Stadium.

The Koalas dominated the early going and were almost ahead within thirty seconds, but their lack of a cutting edge was punished as the Bruins scored via their first real attack in the 13th minute of the game.

After holding a slight advantage (5-4) in shots in the first half, the Koalas piled on the pressure in the second half as they looked for the tying goal.  After both Kayann Glass and Josie Vega came close to scoring, Columbia finally found the correct combination.

Madison Stewart's interception found Elizabeth Schossler and she then found Stewart again on the edge of the box, and her first time shot with her left foot found the top corner of the net to make it 1-1 in the 77th minute.

Despite both teams having good late chances, neither was able to find the winner and the game finished with the 1-1 scoreline.

For the game, the Koalas outshot the Bruins 17-10 with eight of the Koalas shots on target.

Columbia returns to the field on Wednesday evening when they host cross-town rival CIU at 7PM.
