Koalas fall to Eagles but battle hard

The Columbia College Koalas battled hard but fell to a talented Reinhardt Eagles squad 5-0 at home on Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium.

The Koalas came out with a game plan which worked well in the early going, limiting the Eagles to shots from distance and set pieces being their biggest threats.

After an unfortunate own goal made it 1-0 to the Eagles, a poor fifteen minute span really scuppered all of Columbia's initial hard work as Reinhardt added another three goals to make the halftime score 4-0.

After the disappointing late half collapse, the Koalas again played well in the second half and limited the Eagles to just seven shots, of which one found the back of the net.  Breanna Hilton made a number of good saves in goal and the rest of the defensive group worked hard to deny a talented attack any easy opportunities.

Columbia came closest to scoring in the last few minutes, as Kylie Stewart hit the bar and then Madison Stewart's bicycle kick was saved by the Eagles keeper to preserve their shutout.

The Koalas return to the field again when they travel to another conference table-topper in Truett-McConnell University for a 7PM kickoff on Wednesday evening.
