Koalas Jump Back Into Win Column vs Buffs

Summer Dockstader scored the game winning goal with just under fourteen minutes remaining as the Columbia College Koalas moved back into the win column with a hard fought 2-1 victory at Milligan College on Saturday afternoon.

The Koalas were on top for the whole first half, limiting the Buffaloes to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes, while attempting five shots on goal themselves.

Kianna Dodge came close to opening the scoring as her shot rebounded off the crossbar, but in the 23rd minute, the Koalas would pull ahead.

Jordan Myers' corner managed to evade everyone, including the Buffaloes goalkeeper, as she scored her second Olimpico of the season to make it 1-0 Koalas, a score which would hold up until halftime.

A lackluster start to the second half by Columbia was punished by the Milligan attackers to knot the score at 1-1 midway through the half, but the goal stood to motivate Columbia to come back into the game.

Adrianna Machado became the second Koala to hit the bar and the Buffaloes goalkeeper made a great save from the rebound from Josie Vega to deny the Koalas the chance to regain the lead.

After more pressure, Dockstader was the hero for Columbia as she dribbled past three Buffalo defenders before nutmegging the goalkeeper for her first career gamewinner in the 77th minute of the game.

The win takes the Koalas to 4-4-1 (13 points) in the AAC and a 5-4-2 overall record.

Columbia returns to the field on Wednesday, October 19th for Senior Day when they host the Allen University Yellow Jackets at 7PM.
