3 National Qualifiers for Columbia Swim

GREER NATATORIUM, COLUMBIA, SC – In the first meet of the Winter Season, Columbia College Swim Team dove into victory over the University of North Carolina, Pembroke Braves on Saturday, September 30th. Columbia performed particularly well in the seasonally early meet taking first place in 9 of the 13 events and capturing two Nationally Qualifying finishes in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:58.20 and the 200 Free Relay, 1:48.44.

Columbia brushed past the NAIA National Qualifying Standard of 2:09.97 for the 200 Medley Relay allowing 0:11.77 seconds to spare and snuck in 0:06.95 seconds under the 1:55.39 mark for the 200 Free Relay. Columbia finished 9th place in the 2016-17 NAIA National Championship for the 200 Medley Relay with a preliminary time of 1:51.74 and a final time of 1:51.10 while taking 14th in the 200 Free Relay with a preliminary time of 1:41.88 and a final time of 1:41.32.

Individually, Freshman Abby Hess snatched her own Automatic Cut in the 100 Backstroke finishing in just 1:01.56 with 0:00.88 of a second giving her enough time to come under the 1:02.44 mark. In addition to her solo victory, Hess swam in both Qualifying Relays to put three National berths on her 2017-18 record.

Junior returner Cassie Adams snapped up three individual wins in the 50 Breast (0:35.18), 100 Breast (1:16.05), and 50 Fly (0:28.63). Adams joined Hess in the qualifying 200 Medley Relay.

Da'Nelle Williams took another two wins for Columbia in the 50 Free (0:26.92) and the 100 IM (1:08.02) while Williams and Marianne DeWitt both aided in the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay wins. DeWitt finished the 100 Free in 1st place with a time of 1:00.26.
