 Overall

  • Location: Bristol, Va.
  • Season: Columbia (2-1; 0-1 AAC) | King U. (4-5; NCAA Div. II) | Milligan (2-0; 1-0 AAC)

Meet

Columbia trailed both teams heading into the final individual event but a first-place finish from Cassie Adams in the 100 Yard Breaststroke put Columbia within reach of King. Adams finished with a time of 1:13.98 as she swam neck and neck with Jess Vargo of King U. in the first half of the race, the swimmers separated by 0.6 of a second, before pulling away in the last 50 yards to finish nearly a full second ahead of the Tornado swimmer.

Columbia grabbed victory in the final women's event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Da'Nelle Williams, Marianne DeWitt, Haley Stewart, Mackenzie Shannon), with a time of 1:48.08 while sweeping up third place in the same race (Alyssa Wallace, Ashley Sawyer, Michaela Lemmon, Peatsa Littlejohn) with 2:03.54. Although Columbia beat both King and Milligan in the final event, the point gap between the AAC schools was not enough to take the meet overall.

"It was a close meet; each team had a lot of good events," said Coach Gallaher. "Our swimmers contributed to a great overall meet for us. We were able to accomplish what we did because of the depth in each event."
