Koala Swim Prepares for Point Invite

After showing marked improvement last Sunday (Jan. 23) at the William Peace Invite, the Columbia College (SC) women's swim team prepares to participate in the Point Winter Invite. The meet is at 11 am Saturday, Jan. 29, in Valley, Ala.

Outside of fellow conference foe, Point, the Koalas will race against several schools, including some from the NCAA Division II level.

In last Sunday's Dual Meet, the Koalas fell 120-36 to host William Peace and fell to Pfeiffer by just two, 62-60.

Individually, Columbia College finished with three top-three finishes. Jessie Durflinger paced the Koalas finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.88) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.54). Kayla Harmon placed third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:16.20, over just under two seconds faster than her previous season-best.

The 200-yard medley relay of Avy Ayn Watts, Elana Preston, Harmon, and Durflinger, captured gold with a time of 2:11.76.

After Saturday's meet, the Koalas will have one week to prepare for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships scheduled for February 10-12 at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
