Koala Swimming Has Strong Showing in Opening Meet

Spartanburg, SC (Oct. 23) – The Columbia College (SC) women's swimming fell to Converse University and Pfeiffer University at the Converse Tri Meet last Saturday. The Koalas fell 128-39 to host Converse but had a strong showing against Pfeiffer, falling by just four points, 64-60.

Jessie Durflinger led the Koalas finishing on the medal stand in three events. Durflinger won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke, second in the 100-yard free and fifth in the 50-yard free. Durflinger was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed third.

"I am immensely proud of the way we swam on Saturday," said head coach Logan Simpson. "We had several career-best times, which is incredible at the first meet of the season. We were short-handed but competed tenaciously and nearly beat a strong Pfeiffer team."

Avy Ayn Watts also swam solid for Columbia, finishing second in the 1650-yard free and was a member of the 200-yard relay team.

"I think everybody left the pool excited about what we can accomplish this season and beyond," added Simpson.

The Koalas will host Point and St. Andrews in the Columbia College Dual-Meet, Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 am in Greer Natatorium on the Columbia College campus.
