Lady Koala Women Knock Off Agnes Scott 5-4 in Spring Opener; Fall to SCAD and TWU at Home

DECATUR, GA - The Columbia College women's tennis team defeated Div. III Agnes Scott College (Ga.) 5-4 in their spring opener on the road in Atlanta on Feb. 13.

The Koalas got off to a 2-1 lead after doubles as the #1 team of Helena Jokanovic and Mariane Lima won 8-1 while the #2 team of Vienne Geren and Aniya Sims won 8-4.

Jokanovic, Lima, and Sims all won their singles matches as well to clinch the win for the Koalas. Jokanovic and Lima each won 6-0, 6-0 while Sims won 6-2, 6-1.

 

Koalas Fall to SCAD and TWU at Home 

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Lady Koalas then hosted #4 SCAD-Atlanta and #1 Tennessee Wesleyan in home conference matches on Feb. 17 and Feb. 20 respectively, but fell 6-1 and 7-0 to two of the best teams in the league.

The doubles teams lost 3-6, 1-6 against SCAD while Jokanovic picked up the lone win at #1 singles winning 6-3, 6-2. Lima competed hard at the #2 spot as well falling 4-6, 2-6.

Against the Lady Bulldogs, Jokanovic almost won at the top line falling 5-7, 6-7 in a thrilling match. Lima put up another good fight at the 2 line falling 2-6, 2-6. The top Koala doubles team f Jokanovic and Lima also played well, but fell 3-6 while the #2 team of Sims and Geren lost 1-6.

The women next return to action on Sunday Feb. 25 when they host Union College.
