Record Setting Weekend for Track Team

Track season is under way and the Koalas came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. The returners showed why they were at the top of the conference last year and the newcomers showed why they are a force to be reckoned with. In two days of competiton there were 5 new school records and multiple top ten performances.

Although the meet was not scored, the Koalas managed to finish well in the majority of the events.

Kelsey White-Kennedy picked up right where she left off last season. She finished second overall in the 200m, with a time of 27.05. That places her 1st on the top ten list. But she didn't stop there. Kelsey finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.16 in the prelims and in the finals ran 9.12. Both of those times are top ten finishes and they are also qualifying times for NAIA Indoor Nationals, as well as the AAC Conference meet.

As for other record breaking performances, Junior Alyssa Waibel sits at the top. In the 5k she placed first with a Columbia College record time of 19:18.95. Joining Waibel was freshman Heather Woolard, who is the new record holder for triple jump with a distance of 10.51m (34'5.75"). In addition, freshman thrower Aleah Bromell put up two new school records in both the shot put and weight throw with distances of 11.32m (37'1.75") and 12.50m (41'0.25") respectively. And lastly, the 4x200m relay team, which consisted of Freshman Aija Wall, Nechelle Ben, Amber Bell, and Sophomore Fredrika Timmons, turned in a top ten performance with a time of 1:49.70.

The Koalas turned in an astounding 12 AAC Conference qualifying performances, 15 top ten performances, 5 new school records, and 1 national qualifier.  

The Koalas had a strong outting and look to continue their dominanace as the season moves on.
