Winn Qualifies For Nationals

The indoor track & field team traveled to JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC over the weekend for the Mondo Challenge Invitational. The highlight of the day was sophomore Shelby Winn qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship in the 3000 meter racewalk. Shelby hit the NAIA "B" standard with a time of 17:28.01. Shelby will join her teammates Jessica and Victoria Heiser-Whatley at the national meet on March 5-7, in Brookings, SD.

 Also in the track events, juniors Sabree Walker and Kelsey White-Kennedy both made the finals of the 60 meter dash. Sabree ran a personal best of 7.91 seconds to finish in 2nd place, while Kelsey ran 8.22 seconds to finish 8th. Sabree would also finish 8th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.11 seconds.

 In the 400 meter dash, junior Fredrika Timmons and freshman Valeria Bogdanova ran neck and neck with times of 1:03.15 and 1:03.20 respectively, for 7th and 8th place. Freshman Grace Wright set a new personal best with a time of 1:04.46, good for 12th place.

 Freshman Makayla Hollifield ran a personal best in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:34.96 for a 7th place finish. Freshman Gabrielle Huggins would also set a personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:58.74.

 In the throwing events, sophomore Aleah Bromell won the weight throw with a toss of 13.76 meters and would get 2nd place in the shot put with a 11.41 meter throw. Sophomore Alondrea Reid finished 7th in the shot put with a 10.22 meter throw, and 4th place in the weight throw with 12.70 meters. Freshman Zaida Carson also made the finals in both throwing events with an 11.38 meter throw in the shot put for 3rd place, and 10.79 meters in the weight throw for 7th place.

 Junior Morgan Brown and freshman Kristen Bailey Banks would also make the finals in the weight throw along side their 3 teammates. Morgan finished 6th with a throw of 10.89 meters, and Kristen finished 8th with a mark of 10.17 meters.

 In the jumping events, sophomore Heather Woolard made the finals in the long jump with a mark of 4.83 meters for a 9th place finish. Heather would also finish 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.42 meters. Sophomore Kyanna Milliedge finished 7th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.05 meters, and senior Aleah Halitwanger finished 8th with a mark of 9.45 meters.

 The indoor track & field team's next meet will be back at JDL Fast Track on February 7th & 8th for the Camel City Invitational.
