2011 Volleyball Preview

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College Fighting Koalas volleyball team is gearing up for their debut in the Appalachian Athletic Conference this season. Head Coach Brian Solomon says the team has high hopes, “We are pushing ourselves every day in the gym to try and become a championship caliber team.  The players are working very hard to be their best at everything they are doing.” The AAC pre-season coaches’ poll has Columbia projected to finish third as the program received one first-place vote and finished with a total of 49 points.

Milligan (TN) is the favorite to win the AAC Conference with a total of 67 points. 2010 AAC Conference Champions, Union College (Ky.), find themselves in a close second and collected three first-place votes and 66 total points. Montreat (N.C.) and Bryan (TN) round out the top five as they picked up 45 and 39 points respectively.

The Fighting Koalas volleyball program is anchored by senior members Jennifer Monroe and Erica Allman who have received conference recognition from the Southern States Athletic Conference in 2009 and 2010. Newcomers, Johanna Chapel and Caitlin Brickley, look to add to Columbia’s already strong offense.  Already one week into pre-season the volleyball team is looking to make noise in the AAC.
