Columbia College (SC) Volleyball Host Johnson (Tenn.) and Union in AAC Play

Columbia, SC – The Columbia College (SC) volleyball team will host Johnson University (Tenn.) and Union in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contests this weekend. The first serve with Johnson is 6:30 pm on Friday (Sept. 17), and the Union game has an 11 am first serve on Saturday (Sept. 18).

In their last outing, the Koalas fell to St. Andrews University, 3-1, in an AAC match.

The match was a back-and-forth match.

Three of the four sets were closely contested, with only set two having any form of cushion.  In that set, St. Andrews outhit Columbia College 13-7 and forced the Koalas into a negative hitting percentage in leveling the match at 1-1.

For the game, St. Andrews had 32 kills compared to Columbia College 37, but the Koalas out-blocked the Knights 21-19.

Freshman Jordan Coates recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 14 assists, and 12 digs to lead Columbia College.  Ta'Cori Barber picked up 11 digs, and Becca Lorimer had a team-high 18 set assists in the contest.

On the season, Coates leads the team in kills with 33, assists with 55, and in digs with 45.

Looking ahead to this weekend's opponents, the Johnson Royals bring a 5-5 overall record into Friday's matchup, while the Union Bulldogs have a 4-5 record heading into the weekend.

Johnson dropped a five-setter to Bluefield, 3-2, in its last outing.  Jensen Davis had a team-high 16 kills and 18 digs in the loss.  On the season, Davis leads the team in both categories at 125 and 123, respectively.

Union will play three matches in three days. The Bulldogs will face Milligan and Columbia International University before going face-to-face with the Koalas. Heading into the Milligan game, Senior Alison Smith leads the team in kills with 67.  Allison Ruddick has 162 digs to lead the Bulldogs on the season.

The Koalas will host Brenau next Tuesday, Sept. 21, to close out its four-game home stint.  The first serve is 6:30 pm in Porter Gym inside the Godbold Center on the Columbia College campus.
