Strong Second Quarter Lifts Columbia College (SC) Over St. Andrews

Columbia, SC (01-04-22) – The Columbia College (SC) women's basketball team outscored St. Andrews University 15-3 in the second period as the Koalas defeated the Knights 60-47, in an Appalachian Athletic Association (AAC) contest.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Columbia College, which improves to 2-9 overall and 2-8 in the AAC.  St. Andrews remains winless at 0-12 overall and 0-11 in the AAC.

After St. Andrews won the first quarter 18-15, Columbia College picked up its offensive and defensive intensity.  The Koalas held the Knights to 0-11 from the field in the second quarter to take a 30-21 advantage into the half. 

Columbia College pushed its lead to 14, 37-25, midway through the third quarter before St. Andrews managed to find some offense.  The Knights pulled within seven points at the 3:30 mark (41-34), but the Koalas remained poised, pushing its lead back to double-digits (46-34) before heading into the final stanza with an 11-point lead, 46-35.

St. Andrews opened the fourth quarter on a 6-1 run to pull within six, 47-41, but that would be the close as the Knights would get for the remainder of the contest. The Koalas ended the game with a 13-6 run for the final margin of victory.

Carnasia Wells and Hali Doctor led the offensive attack Columbia College, finishing with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Wynter Webb had a well-balanced game, finishing with nine points, a team-high seven rebounds, along with six steals, six assists, and two blocks.

Aneas Price led three double-digit Knight scorers with 15 points. KaShaelyn Fuseler and Dominique Cook each scored 10 points in the loss.

Columbia College will travel to West Point, Ga., Thursday, (Jan. 6) to face Point University before returning home Saturday, Jan. 8, to host Montreat.
