Koalas Volleyball Host Brenau Tuesday

Columbia, SC – The Columbia College (SC) volleyball team will host Brenau University, Tuesday (Sept. 21) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) conference match. 

The first serve is 6:30 p.m. in Porter Gym on the campus of Columbia College.

Admission to the contest is free for Columbia College students, faculty, and staff with Columbia College ID and $5 for all other spectators.

Fans, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, must wear face coverings that cover their nose and mouth, including while in their seats.

Columbia College, which will be looking to end its six-game losing streak, brings a 1-7 overall record into the contest. The Koalas are 0-5 in the conference after dropping a pair of matches last weekend.

Brenau is coming into the match at 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Over the weekend, the Golden Tigers split a pair of conference games, defeating Tennessee Wesleyan 3-2, and falling to Bryan College, 3-0.

On Friday (Sept. 17), Columbia College fell to Johnson, TN (3-0), and on Saturday (Sept.), the Koalas fell to Union, 3-1.

In Friday's contest, Jalyn Pace led the team in kills with seven, and Jordan Coates and Becca Lorimer, who shared the setting duties, put up 10 and 11 assists, respectively. Ta'Cori Barber had a game-high 15 digs for Columbia College.

The Koalas had a better showing on Saturday, as they took Union to extra points in one of the sets and down to the wire in two others. Columbia College recorded team-highs in kills with 43, digs with 79, and blocks with 12.

Coates was the only player to record double-digit kills with 11. 

Once again, Coates and Lorimer each put up double-digit assists with 19 and 16, respectively. Ta'Cori Barber continued to be solid in the back row, picking up a season and game-high digs with 28.

After Tuesday, Columbia College will be on the road for its next six contests beginning this Saturday, Sept. 25 at Point University.
