Bio

Current Columbia College Instructional Designer, Dr. Holly Sawyers will serve as the Head Cheerleading Coach for the Koalas in the Fall of 2024. Holly brings with her a lifetime of cheerleading experience ranging from age 8 to professional cheer as an adult including time on the UNC-Greensboro cheer team. Her expertise will set the Columbia College Cheerleading Program up for a successful first season and exciting future.

“The friends I cheered with in college are still my best friends today," said Sawyers when asked what excited her most about this new opportunity for Columbia College. "Of course, I’m excited to add to the talent of Columbia College Athletics, but to be a part of building a new community here on campus is a dream come true. Cheerleading will offer a new opportunity for Koalas to get involved in the surrounding community while supporting and adding to the culture surrounding our current athletic offerings.”

A native of Charlotte, NC, Sawyers is a 2011 graduate of the UNC-Greensboro where she got a B.A in Psychology and was a member of the UNCG cheer squad. She then acheived her Master's Degree in School Counseling and Guidance Services from UCF in 2014. She finally obtained her Doctorate of Education degree in Higher Education Executive Leadership in 2024 from Wingate University.

From 2019-2022, Sawyers served as the Student Success and Faculty Support Coord. as well as Director of Online Programs at Div. II Catawba University (NC). She is also currently an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at Central Piedmont CC in Charlotte.
