Shooting Woes Doom Koala Men at home

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia men's basketball team struggled shooting from the floor Wednesday evening as they fell 69-51 at home to Montreat College.

A closely played first half that saw the lead swing back and forth had Montreat eventually pull ahead to lead 30-25 at the break. The Cavs then extended their lead to 10 early in the second half going up 40-30 at the 16-minute mark before the Koalas went on an 8-2 run to get within four at 42-38. The Koalas would then again crawl to within four at the 9-minute mark but Montreat then went on a big, prolonged run to increase their lead to double-digits and go on for the win.

Columbia shot just 28 percent overall and only 8 percent from three-point range to suffer their fourth straight loss. Montreat shot only 25 percent from three and just 37.5 % overall as they also had trouble shooting on the night.

The Koalas were led by 18 points from senior guard Kendall Brasfield along with his 6 rebounds and 3 steals while fellow guard, junior AJ Vaught tallied 11 points with 2 assists. Forward Chandler O'Bannon then grabbed 8 rebounds with 8 points while fellow forward Nakia Johnson led the team with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Junior Guard Tae Burton added 6 points as well.

CC falls to 9-9 overall and 2-8 in conference while MC improves to 12-5 and 6-3 in the AAC. Columbia will remain home to host Kentucky Christian on Saturday at a new tip off time of 2:00 pm.
