Men's Golf Places 7th at D-2 NGU Invite

RESULTS

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Columbia College men's golf team competed at the tough Div. II North Greenville University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday this week. The Koalas came away with a 7th place team finish at the tournament played at Cherokee Valley CC in Traveler's Rest, S.C.

Winning the invitational was D-2 Palm Beach Atlantic by 18 shots over host N. Greenville. AAC foe Milligan finished 4th followed by D-2 Emory & Henry, Spartanburg Methodist and Columbia. D-2 Mars Hill (NC) finished 8th while Bob Jones was 9th, Savannah St. 10th and Elizabeth City State, 11th. 

The Koalas shot a 32-over 320 in round one Monday but followed that with a 40-over 328 as they struggled in round two to finish just two strokes back of 6th place SMC. The Koalas were led by freshman Thomas Campbell as he shot an impressive 3-over 75 in round one but fell back with an 84 in round two to finish tied for 19th at 15-over 159.

Coming in behind Campbell was fellow freshman Zachary Mock as he tied for 22nd at 16-over 160 shooting an 81 on Monday but coming back with the low round of the day for CC at 79 on Tuesday. Freshman Josh Brown then followed Mock coming in 39th place with rounds of 80 and 86 for a 22-over 166.

Senior 2x Golfer of the Week Blake Vaughn struggled in round one shooting an 87, but rallied in the second round to improve by six and shoot an 81 to finish at 24-over 168. Sophomore Ryan Lord also finished tied for 43rd with Vaughn shooting consecutive rounds of 84 for a 24 over par tournament.

The Koala golfers will next hit the links on Tuesday, April 1 when they head to Johnson City, TN to battle in the Milligan Shootout where they will play 36 holes in one day.
